Dental Implants

A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root of a tooth that has failed. Each implant is placed into the bone which is carefully prepared at the precise location of the missing tooth. An implant is a titanium screw, just like a tooth root, it is placed in the jawbone.

In order to support replacement teeth, dental implants allow a variety of components to be fitted. Once fitted, these components provide a strong foundation for long-term support of crowns, bridges or dentures.

Implants have now been used by dentists for a number of years and are a safe and long lasting way to replace missing teeth.

In order to place implants it is necessary to ensure that there is enough bone in your jaw for the implant to be placed into. This will mean that if you are considering implants we will examine you and take x-rays to fully assess your bone level and suitability.

Benefits of Dental Implants:

  • No need to damage adjacent teeth – If an implant is needed to replace missing teeth there is no need to prepare the teeth on either side of the gap as you would have to with a bridge.
  • Cost Effective – – In the long term if implants are well maintained and looked after, they can be more cost effective than either bridges or dentures. Dental implants once placed can last a lifetime if taken care of properly
